THE STOPPA LAKE MELODIERS
This wonderful group of Wilno muscians began on January 6, 1993 in the home of Raymond Kutchkoskie on Stoppa Lake. Martin Shulist was visiting Ray
and helping him tune his fiddle when the two began playing some good old-fashioned Wilno music.
When news got out that Martin & Ray were playing together, others wanted to join in. Soon a base group of players was formed and they called
themselves the "Stoppa Lake Melodiers". They were: Martin Shulist, Ray Kutchkoskie, Bennie Kutchkoskie, Alfie Prince and Ted Recoskie (now deceased).
These fine players purchased equipment and began playing at anniversary and birthday parties for friends and family. During the years they have
picked up many "guest" players including Paul Shalla, John Yaskolskie, Mike Summers, Mike Whitehead, "Rocket" Ron Olsheskie, Brent Quade, Andrew Yantha, Amman McCaffery and Barney McCaffery.
The Stoppa Lake Melodiers can be found supporting every community event in Wilno and playing at other charity and community events in the
communities surrounding Wilno. They provide entertainment for the St. Mary's Chicken Supper every September and at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Christmas Party every December.
Through the years, this group has evolved into one fantastic band. Some of their most popular tunes are: "Monday Morning",
"Dudinski Waltz", "If I Only Knew", "Recoskie Waltz", "Sherwood River Reel (local creation)", "The Little Log Cabin", "On the Road to Wilno (by Paul Shalla),
"Maple Sugar", "Mockingbird Hill" and "We Sadi Sadi" (this is the song that the Father of the Bride and the muscians would play while the bride was getting into the buggy for her ride
to the ceremony). So if you have the opportunity to visit Wilno bring your dancing shoes - just in case!!
