Welcome to Wilno’s Polish Heritage page.

 The Polish history in the Wilno area started when the Polish people immigrated to Canada in 1864. For the folks who do not know about the Polish people or their history, here is a short Polish history lesson.

POLISH HISTORY 101

The word Polish defines the name of a group of Slavic people. They are a West Slavic ethnic group or tribe. Polish are Slavic and they are European.

Polish is also the name of the Polish people’s native language, nationality, culture, citizenship and identity. The English spelling of the word Polish is “Polski”

Poland is the home and native land of the Polish people. In their native language, it is called “Polska”

The Polish, as other Slavs, settled on their land in the 6th century after Christ. This is the land where they developed their own Slavic language called Polish and created their own traditions, folklore, music, dance and cuisine. Their greatest asset is their written literature and history.
